DataPath, Inc. has announced it will bid as a prime contractor on the U.S. Air Force (USAF) multi-million dollar Ground Multiband Terminal (GMT) program, a major “hub and spoke” satellite communications terminal modernization program. DataPath provides the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) with access to battle-tested, proven, leading-edge commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) earth terminal solutions.
DataPath earth terminal solutions currently support the U.S. Army’s Joint Network Node (JNN) as well as the Marine Corps’ Video Storage Wide Area Network (VSWAN) and Logistics Support Wide Area Network (LSWAN) programs in Iraq. DataPath designed and supports the Air Force teleport at Ramstein Air Force base in Germany. This platform provided the model for the DoD teleport initiative.
The GMT program will replace legacy military specification (MILSPEC) tactical satellite earth terminals. GMT terminals will operate in multiple super high-frequency (SHF) bands using transponded commercial and military satellites. GMTs will use the on-orbit X and Ka band capabilities of the Wideband Gapfiller Satellite system and replace aging Ground Mobile Forces (GMF) terminals.
The GMT program calls for immediate and uninterrupted GMT operational status and systems portability - empowering airmen to deploy GMT units in rugged transit cases to mission-critical locations throughout the world.
“DataPath portable satellite earth terminal solutions empower the military’s transition toward joint interoperability and net-centric operating models,” said Andy Mullins, chief executive officer of DataPath. The company is proud to offer the Air Force portable satellite earth terminal solutions that provide compatibility between legacy systems and state of the art IP capabilities that have already demonstrated their value in Afghanistan and Iraq, Mullins added.
