Satellite communications firm gets financing

Justin Rubner

DataPath Inc. is getting $12 million in debt financing from RBC Centura Bank, mostly for research and development efforts, the company says.

Norcross-based DataPath is a satellite communications integrator, doing much of its business with the Department of Defense. For example, the company builds small, mobile broadcasting ground stations (terminals) for military forces in the Middle East. DataPath operates in 12 countries.

"If you go into theater -- Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, whatever -- you can't throw a rock and not hit one of our terminals," said DataPath spokesman Nelson Santini.

DataPath, founded in 1996, also provides equipment and services for the commercial sector, including Turner Broadcasting System Inc.

In July, the company was acquired by Atlanta-based private investment group White Oak Management Partners Inc. for an undisclosed sum. White Oak specializes in the acquisition and management of companies in the aerospace, defense, manufacturing and tech sectors.
